Established in 1846, Shinzato Distillery is the oldest existing distillery in Okinawa and holds the distinction of being among the first authorized producers of "awamori" in the ancient era of the Ryukyu Kingdom (1429-1879).
This venerable distillery has faithfully followed its motto "Wajo Ryoshu" (translated as "good wine produced in the spirit of harmony") for hundreds of years since its establishment. Continuing in the same tradition of creating "harmony", that is, forming a pleasant and coherent whole.
This original blend gives rise to an aromatic and round taste unique to liqueurs produced on a subtropical island.
The distillery blended a 13-year old Awamori (Japanese distilled alcohol made from rice) stored in oak barrels with an overseas (Scotland) blended whiskey base to add a delicate, soft sweetness derived from rice to the strong flavor of malt.
The use of new heavy charred oak barrels creates a rich and mellow flavor with a complex interplay between the vanilla aroma derived from old Awamori and the vanilla aroma derived from the oak barrels.
Non-chill filtration is used in the bottling process to preserve the rich flavor compounds obtained from the barrel.
