Chateau La Verriere is a family estate in Bordeaux, handed down from father to son for four generations. In the 19th century the vineyard was completely destroyed by phylloxera and not much was left. It took the family almost 30 years to find high quality vines in order to restart the wine production.
The great leap towards quality was made in the 60s by Andre Bessette, the father of the current owner, who restructured the entire vineyard - he replanted all the vines with higher quality clones and carried out the drainage of the entire plantation, which at that time was spread over 20 hectares.
In 1999, Alain Bessette joined his father, after working for more than 10 years with another producer in Bordeaux. Alain's arrival breathed new life into the estate, and Chateau La Verriere began to grow in size as well as quality, currently reaching 75 hectares. Alain is an extremely talented winemaker, his name appearing on the shortlist for the "Talents de Bordeaux Superieur" every year.
